From the book's introduction:

This study will take a course distinct from the courses of the prevailing critical studies of the maqtal books, and different in its understanding of the movement of rise and decline, since the most important question is: What are the features of the written compilations of the Husayni maqtal in terms of their methodology of compilation and their social and political circumstances?

This calls for shedding light on the dimensions of the historical development of the methodology of compilation and the identity of its material and content.

The aim of this study, then, will not be classification according to reliability and unreliability; rather, the aim is to distinguish between them in terms of the methodology shaped by the convictions and the foundational principles of their authors within their social circumstances. The ultimate aim beyond that is to arrive at a state of understanding of the maqtal books in their historical course, to consider their multiple dimensions, and to benefit from their acceptable merits.
