In the presence of a select group of religious scholars and personalities and a large crowd of men and women, the fourth central memorial ceremony for the anniversary of the passing of the giant of the marjaʿiyya and jihad, Imam al-Shirazi (q), was held at the ʿId prayer hall in the Jidhafs area on the eve of Friday, 17/11/2005. Sayed Mahmoud Al-Mosawi managed the ceremony, and among the participants was His Eminence Ayatollah Sayed Murtada al-Shirazi. The segments of the ceremony were as follows: .
1/ Recitation of the Noble Qurʾan
2/ Presentation of a lecture by His Eminence the late religious authority (marjaʿ) Sayed Muhammad al-Shirazi (on the role of the scholars).
3/ A lecture by His Eminence ʿAllamah Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ghani ʿAbbas, of the scholars of the Eastern Region, on (Freedom in the Thought of Imam al-Shirazi).
4/ A lecture by His Eminence Ayatollah Sayed Murtada al-Shirazi on (Peacefulness and Peace).
5/ An address by His Eminence Shaykh ʿAbdullah al-Salih on (Political Freedoms in the Thought of Imam al-Shirazi).
6/ A filmed presentation of the sayings of a group of scholars on the thought of Imam al-Shirazi. They are (ʿAllamah Sayed Muhammad al-ʿAlawi, Shaykh Muhammad Jaʿfar al-Dirazi, Shaykh al-Muhtadi, Shaykh Habib al-Jamri).

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful
And blessings and peace be upon the noblest of creation, our master Muhammad, and his pure Family, and may the curse of Allah be upon all their enemies until the rising of the Day of Retribution.

Peace be upon you, O gentlemen and ladies and honored guests at this ceremony of ours, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings..
We all meet in this annual gathering on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the passing of the giant of thought and the marjaʿiyya, His Eminence Imam Grand Ayatollah Sayed Muhammad al-Shirazi (q) ..
We meet, and meetings are many, but what distinguishes them is the nature of what is gathered around .. Here what brings us together is thought and the Message, which produces obligation and deployment toward a new formulation for a world of faith, freedom, prosperity and peace..
Those who attempted to formulate a world with these specifications are many, but what distinguishes the formulation of Imam al-Shirazi (q) is its religious authenticity, the comprehensiveness of its remedies, its accommodation of all human beings, and the diversity of its works in the various fields of life .. their politics, their economics, their social affairs and their cultural affairs, and all that contributes to their development ..
The commemoration is distinguished by the distinction of the intellectual and scholarly giving that proceeds along the path of Allah, Almighty, in order to seek and drink from the light of knowledge, and (Knowledge is a noble inheritance), as the Imam, the Commander of the Faithful (a), says .. and it is in the nature of inheritance to pass from the dead to the living, so that by it the wheel of life may continue ..
The commemoration is magnified by the magnitude of the principles and starting points it expresses, embodying in its course the movement of the Prophet (s) and the pure Imams (a).. so that the commemoration may be one of the titles of venerating the sacraments of Allah, for the cultivation of hearts, as the Exalted said “That. And whoever venerates the sacraments of Allah—indeed that arises from the Godwariness of hearts.” (Qurʾan 22:32)..
And Imam al-Shirazi (q), who set out in his movement and thought drawing inspiration from the movement of the Messenger and his Ahl al-Bayt (may the blessings of Allah be upon them), is the one who bequeathed to us abundant knowledge, so that our duty-bound tasks may be defined in deploying [it] for life ..
The Introduction to the Theme of Political Freedom
The title of freedom, and political freedom, has its own special impact on souls, because freedom is an innate feeling created with the human being; he inclines toward setting forth, emancipated and liberated from shackles and burdens .. But this feeling has been taken away before the birth of the human being .. As a result, the human being has suffered from numerous problems in all aspects of life..
Therefore among the most important things that the Islamic Message, to which the Greatest Messenger (s) called, achieves is in the saying of the Exalted: “and relieves them of their burdens and the shackles that were upon them” (Qurʾan 7:157), as an expression of this aim ..
And Imam al-Shirazi (q), proceeding from faith in (the primacy of freedom), in which he believed .. worked to lay the foundation of this principle through his numerous writings in this field, such as the book (Freedom in Islam), the book (Freedoms), and others..
He (q) supplied the Islamic movements, from the beginning of his movement, with three brilliant books so that they might proceed on the path of achieving freedom, namely (The New Formulation for a World of Faith, Freedom, Prosperity and Peace), (The Path to the Awakening of the Muslims) and (The Practice of Change to Save the Muslims); then he followed them with a fourth book at the end of his life (q), namely (Jurisprudence, the Path of Salvation)..
So that a mission-driven march may arise, among whose aims are the achievement of this hope and the demand for it, however long the night's journey ..
The march did not end with the death of Imam al-Shirazi (q), but rather continued through the emergence of two marjaʿ leaderships that follow the path of demanding freedom and strengthening this principle .. They are
His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq al-Shirazi (may Allah the Exalted preserve him).
And His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayed Muhammad Taqi al-Modarresi (may Allah the Exalted preserve him).
And now, with the theme of political freedom in the thought of Imam al-Shirazi and His Eminence ʿAllamah Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ghani ʿAbbas, of the scholars of the Eastern Region: let him kindly come forward, with thanks, escorted by the sending of blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad..
The Introduction to the Theme of Peacefulness and Peace
In a world clamoring with the roar of destructive explosions, and dyed with knives stained with the blood of innocents at the hands of the bloodshedders among the enemies of humanity, the enemies of religion and the enemies of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) .. humanity yearns for peacefulness and peace to achieve security .. the important state that Allah the Exalted has granted to the human being, where the Exalted said: “and secured them from fear” (Qurʾan 106:4), but security has been assaulted by the wrongdoers and the people of war..
With awareness, Imam al-Shirazi (q), who is (the one knowledgeable of his time), sensed the importance of peacefulness and peace for humanity, and observed (the events that occur) and the contemporary ones, and presented to us serious visions and remedies, proceeding from the Noble Qurʾan and the hadiths of the Messenger and his Ahl al-Bayt .. so that (confusions may not assail us)..
And he authored, among the books he authored, which reached more than one thousand two hundred books, many books flowing in this direction, the most prominent of which is what was issued recently, the book (The Jurisprudence of Peacefulness and Peace), which reached eight hundred and sixteen pages .. In it His Eminence Imam al-Shirazi (q) addressed the culture of peacefulness and peace in a comprehensive manner, lengthwise and breadthwise ..
Beginning .. with the foundational grounding, the definition, and the statement of importance, requirements and effects ..
Passing .. through the bases of peacefulness and peace in the various fields (politics and rule, economics, jihad, human and spiritual relations, and in administration)..
And ending .. with the presentation of the verses, narrations and instances of peacefulness and peace.
