Imam ʿAli ibn Musa al-Rida (a) said: “Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, created the believer from His light and dyed them in His mercy, and He took their covenant for us with the wilāyah. So the believer is the brother of the believer by his father and his mother: his father is the light and his mother is the mercy. So beware the insight of the believer, for he looks with the light of Allah from which he was created.”

The believer infers the truths:
1/ By the light that springs from his knowledge.
2/ Or by the light that steals into him from the grace of Allah.
So he sees the truths by the light of Allah, but mercy is the dye of his dealings with his brothers, along with whatever truths are disclosed to him.
