The Daily Invocations of Blessings in the Month of Shaʿban

upon the Prophet and His Family (at Midday)

And on the Night of the Middle [of the Month]

Muhammad ibn Yahya al-ʿAttar narrated, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Sayyari, from al-ʿAbbas ibn Mujahid—he says: He said:

ʿAli ibn al-Husayn (a) used to supplicate at every midday (zawāl) of the days of Shaʿban, and on the night of its middle, and to invoke blessings upon the Prophet (s) with this invocation, saying:

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the tree of prophethood, the station of the Message, the place frequented by the angels, the mine of knowledge, and the household of revelation.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the ship sailing in the overwhelming depths: whoever boards it is safe, and whoever abandons it drowns; the one who goes ahead of them is a renegade, the one who lags behind them perishes, and the one who keeps close to them attains.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the impregnable cave, the succor of the distressed and the abject, the refuge of those who flee, and the protection of those who seek protection.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad with abundant blessing that will be pleasing to them, and a fulfillment and discharge of the right of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, by power and strength from You, O Lord of all the worlds.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the good, the pious, the chosen, whose rights You have made obligatory, and whose obedience and wilāyah You have made incumbent.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and fill my heart with obedience to You, and do not disgrace me through disobedience to You, and grant me to share with those whose provision You have straitened out of what You have made ample for me of Your bounty and spread over me of Your justice, and You have given me life under Your shade. And this is the month of Your Prophet, the master of Your messengers: Shaʿban, which You have encompassed, from Yourself, with mercy and good pleasure; in whose fasting and standing in prayer, in its nights and its days, the Messenger of Allah (s) used to persevere, in humility (bukhūʿan)[1] before You, honoring it and magnifying it, until the time of his death.

O Allah, so help us to follow his Sunna in it and to attain intercession with him. O Allah, and make him for me an intercessor whose intercession is accepted, and a wide road (mahyaʿan)[2] to You, and make me a follower of him, until I meet You on the Day of Resurrection pleased with me and overlooking my sins, having made obligatory for me, from Yourself, mercy and good pleasure, and having settled me in the Abode of Permanence and the dwelling of the chosen[3].
