General introduction:
You may wonder: how can a nursing infant be a martyr?!
And these questions may leap into your mind:
Why is innocent, pure blood shed, blood mingled with the purity of Prophethood and the fragrance of the Imamate?!
And why do the criminals go so far in criminality as to slaughter the youngest of the martyrs?!
And why do they blacken the face of history with crimes such as these?!
So you are pained by the magnitude of the calamity, and you shed blood instead of tears; you cry out where those who cry out cry out, and you lament when the lamenters lament; and anguish over his calamity carries you to beating the chest, scratching the face and striking the head…
But you will come to know that the “youngest martyr” is the “greatest witness.”
And the doors will open before your inner sight…
So you will realize that he is a witness to the corruption of the ways of the tyrants and the arrogant…
And you will learn that he is a proof (hujja) upon the servants in knowing the truth and the path of realities…
And the stations of the Proofs and the ranks of the saints (awliyaʾ) will become clear before you…
And he will take you by the hand toward the courtyards of guidance and the soundness of religion and of this world…
And because of him, clouds of mercy and clouds of blessings will shade you…
He is ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Husayn, the Infant (a), whose martyrdom and whose bearing of witness you will read about in this book…
