On the occasion of the uprising of the Tunisian people, I am republishing an article that I had published on the occasion of the victory of the Lebanese resistance over the Israeli enemy. It shows that there is still hope for change; therefore we must not submit to bargaining and to the deception of peoples by rulers.. We ask Allah that leaders take their lesson from these changes, so that they may lay the foundations for new stages in the history of peoples.. for the laws (sunan) of Allah the Exalted do not change and are not altered.

Among some intellectuals and reformers, visions accumulate by the effect of the givens of reality, and so they form a method that is an offspring of reality; and however that reality is, that method is colored by it and affected by its components. There is a difference between the intellectual and reformer adopting a method suited to reality with the aim of influencing it, and his taking on its color and following its course and direction..
Intellectuals may exchange the various sides of opinion, and in their spheres of discussion sound opinions, feeble ones and others are put forward.. However, the most convincing—in our contemporary reality—is the opinion most colored by what reality imposes and dictates.. And what reality? That reality made by others, who have entrenched themselves behind material, political or media power.. So the intellectual becomes a follower of that crier.. and he reckons that he is innovative, wise and well-versed in reality.. Perhaps the adoption of this methodology of surrender to reality arises from the nature of cultural formation, or from the roaring media wave that affects not only society but even the masters of culture and thought..
Hence, in the face of a reality that handles thought with this methodology, which proceeds along a descending line, responding to the dictates of reality more than influencing it, events and occurrences will be the most eloquent admonisher to them that there is still what can happen and take place.. and that there is still one who can bring about change according to what he sees and what he believes for this world..
What occurred in the events of the war that the Israeli enemy waged on Lebanon, and what the Islamic resistance displayed of defiance, patience and steadfastness in the face of the most overbearing power in the region.. delivered a clear message with an intellectual and mission-oriented content—a content that drives its root into the depths of ideas by mission-driven arms, which possessed a vision that the sweeping current of the media and globalization opposed. They insisted on what they believed in, offered an example of steadfastness and dignity, and restored the spirit shattered across the Arab world by the setbacks caused by all the attempts at peace and capitulation under the name of responding to international circumstances, within the awareness of the jurisprudence of reality and the jurisprudence of crises..
There is a difference between a thought that becomes embroiled in crises so as itself to be another crisis in the path of the reformers, and a thought that enters the crisis to dismantle it and reassemble it, thereby painting another picture: the picture of solutions and of imposing what ought to be in the first place.
